Baleària is the trading name of Spanish shipping company Baleària Eurolíneas Marítimas S.A., founded on 20 June 1998 by Adolfo Utor with 16 partners and 126 employees. Headquartered in Dénia on Spain's Costa Blanca, Baleària is Spain's leading domestic ferry operator. It connects mainland Spain, Dénia, Valencia and Barcelona, with the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, plus the Strait of Gibraltar to Ceuta and Tangier, North Africa, and Florida to the Bahamas through its Baleària Caribbean operation.
Blue Star Ferries
Blue Star Ferries is a Greek shipping company that began as Strintzis Lines in 1965 in Kefalonia and adopted the Blue Star brand in 2000. Today it is part of Attica Group, alongside Superfast Ferries, Hellenic Seaways and ANEK Lines. Blue Star Ferries operates Ro-Pax ferries between mainland Greek ports, Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio, and the islands of the Cyclades, Dodecanese, North Aegean and Crete.
Bundhaya Speed Boat
Bundhaya Speed Boat is a Thai ferry operator founded in 2008 and based at the Bundhaya Resort on Koh Lipe in the Andaman Sea. The company runs around 60 routes with up to 412 weekly trips, connecting Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, the Trang islands and Pak Bara with Koh Lipe, plus seasonal cross-border crossings to Langkawi in Malaysia. Bundhaya Speed Boat is certified by the Thai Marine Department and carries foot passengers only.
Fast Ferries
Fast Ferries is a Greek shipping company established in 1989 by the Panagiotakis brothers. Operating from the port of Rafina to the Cyclades, the company connects Athens with Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Naxos and Paros year-round. In summer it adds seasonal lines from Piraeus to the Cyclades, including Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Folegandros, Ios and Santorini, and from Alexandroupolis to Samothraki and Limnos. Golden Star Ferries
Golden Star Ferries is a Greek ferry company founded in 2011 by the Andriot brothers Giorgos and Dimitris Stephanou, who also own the Bright Navigation freight company. Operating from the port of Rafina in Attica, Golden Star Ferries connects Athens with the islands of the Northern Cyclades, Andros, Tinos and Mykonos, and the Central Cyclades, Naxos, Paros, Ios and Santorini. Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV)
Grandi Navi Veloci, known as GNV, is an Italian shipping company founded in 1992 by Aldo Grimaldi as a subsidiary of Grimaldi Group. Headquartered in Genoa, GNV became part of MSC Group in 2010 and merged with SNAV the same year. With a fleet of 26 ships covering 33 routes, GNV connects 8 countries: Italy, Spain, France, Albania, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Malta. It was the first Italian company to introduce cruise ferries on Mediterranean routes, with Splendid and Majestic in the mid-1990s.
Grimaldi Lines
Grimaldi Lines is an Italian shipping company founded in 1947 and headquartered in Naples. Family-run for over 76 years by the Grimaldi family, it is part of Grimaldi Group, alongside Atlantic Container Line, Minoan Lines, Finnlines and Malta Motorways of the Seas. The fleet of 13 to 15 modern ferries connects mainland Italy with Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Spain and Tunisia. Flagships Cruise Roma and Cruise Barcelona, the largest in the fleet at up to 3,500 passengers each, were the first Mediterranean vessels to operate with zero emissions in port.
Liberty Lines
Liberty Lines is an Italian high-speed passenger ferry operator founded in 1993 as Ustica Lines by Captain Vittorio Morace, a Neapolitan shipowner. Headquartered in Trapani, Sicily, the company rebranded to Liberty Lines in 2016 after acquiring Siremar - Compagnia delle Isole and Traghetti delle Isole. Today Liberty Lines is the largest fast passenger transport company in Italy, carrying around 3.5 million passengers a year between Sicily, the Aeolian, Egadi and Pelagie islands, Pantelleria, Ustica and Calabria, with seasonal extensions to the Istrian coast.
Mikres Kyklades, Small Cyclades Lines
Mikres Kyklades, also known as Small Cyclades Lines, is a Greek family-run ferry company established in 1956 by Captain Dimitris Skopelitis from Donoussa. The company operates a single year-round vessel, F/B Express Skopelitis, which is the lifeline for the small Cyclades islands of Iraklia, Schinoussa, Koufonisia and Donoussa. The ship sails six times a week between Naxos and Amorgos via the small Cyclades, and once a week extends the route to Ios and Santorini.
Naviera Armas
Naviera Armas is a Spanish shipping company founded in 1941 in Lanzarote by Antonio Armas Curbelo. Headquartered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, it operates as Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea following its 2018 acquisition of Compañía Trasmediterránea. The company focuses on the Canary Islands inter-island network, mainland Spain to Canaries corridors, and Spain to Morocco, Algeria, Ceuta and Melilla routes. The Balearic Islands operations were transferred to Trasmed GLE (Grimaldi Group) in July 2021 and are a separate operator. In August 2025 Naviera Armas signed binding agreements to sell its Canary Islands and Peninsular operations to Baleària and its Strait of Gibraltar assets to DFDS; the Spanish competition authority (CNMC) approved both transactions on 31 March 2026 and formal closure is underway.
Navigazione Libera del Golfo (NLG)
Navigazione Libera del Golfo, known as NLG, is an Italian shipping company founded in 1953 with the motor ships Italia and Linda. The current company NLG S.r.l. was established in 1981 and is run by the Aponte family of Sorrento, whose maritime tradition dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The fleet includes 11 fast monohulls, one catamaran and three historic motor ships, operating 38 routes and 585 weekly sailings across the Gulf of Naples, the Pontine and Tremiti islands, and the Bonifacio-Palau crossing between Sardinia and Corsica.
SAOS Ferries
SAOS Ferries is a Greek shipping company founded in 1975 by residents of Samothraki, taking its name from a mountain on the island. Headquartered in Alexandroupoli in northeastern Greece, the company is currently active across the Dodecanese island chain. The fleet consists of the conventional ferries F/B Stavros and F/B Saonisos plus the high-speed HSF Zefyros, with a fast craft Nissos acquired in 2023.
SEAJETS
SEAJETS is a Greek-Cypriot ferry operator founded in 1989 and headquartered in Piraeus. It operates the largest high-speed fleet in the Aegean Sea, combining catamarans and monohulls with conventional Ro-Pax ferries. SEAJETS sails primarily between April and October, linking Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio, Heraklion, Rethymno, Volos and Kavala with the islands of the Cyclades, Sporades, North Aegean and Crete.
Tallink Silja Line
Tallink Silja Line is the trading name used by AS Tallink Grupp, an Estonian shipping company that traces its origins to 1965 when the Estonian Shipping Company introduced passenger ferry services between Helsinki and Tallinn on MS Vanemuine. AS Tallink Grupp was founded in 1989 and is publicly listed on the Tallinn Stock Exchange. After acquiring Silja Line from Sea Containers in 2006 and the Baltic operations of Superfast Ferries the same year, it became the largest passenger and cargo shipping company in the Baltic Sea region, transporting around 5.5 million passengers a year between Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Latvia and the Åland Islands.

A.N.E. Kalymnou (Anonymous Maritime Company of Kalymnos) is a Greek shipping company established around 1990 in Kalymnos, with headquarters in Agios Nikolaos. Operating in the Dodecanese for around 35 years, A.N.E. Kalymnou serves Kalymnos and the surrounding small islands with a fleet of two to three vessels covering routes to Kos, Astypalea, Samos, Leros, Lipsi, Patmos, Arki and Agathonisi.
Aegean Flying Dolphins
Aegean Flying Dolphins is a Greek hydrofoil operator founded in 2006 and based in Piraeus. The company specialises in fast passenger crossings between Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf islands and between Volos and the Sporades. Its fleet of three hydrofoils carries foot passengers only and operates mainly during the high season.
ANEM Ferries
ANEM Ferries is the trading name of the Anonymous Shipping Company of Mastichari (Greek: Anonymi Naftiliaki Etairia Mastichariou), a Greek family operator established in 1986. Based in the village of Mastichari on the north-western coast of Kos, ANEM Ferries provides daily service between Mastichari and Kalymnos and seasonal connections to Pserimos and Nisyros.
Batam Fast Ferry
Batam Fast Ferry Pte Ltd is a Singapore-based ferry company established in 1985, operating high-speed passenger crossings between Singapore and the Indonesian island of Batam. The company started with two small ferries (Bintan 2 and Bintan 3) and has grown into one of the four major operators on the Singapore-Batam corridor with a fleet of around 21 to 26 vessels and dozens of daily departures.
DFDS
DFDS is a Danish shipping and logistics company founded in 1866 by C.F. Tietgen as Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab, "The United Steamship Company", through the merger of three Danish steamship businesses. Headquartered in Copenhagen, DFDS operates around 50 freight and passenger ferries on more than 25 routes across Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
Finnlines
Finnlines is a Finnish shipping company founded in 1947 as a subsidiary of Merivienti Oy, originally created to handle Finnish forest-industry exports to the United States. Now part of the Italian Grimaldi Group, Finnlines is headquartered in Helsinki and operates one of the largest passenger and freight networks in the Baltic Sea, with around 10 passenger Ro-Pax vessels and dozens of cargo ships.
Fjord Line
Fjord Line is a Norwegian ferry operator founded in 1993, headquartered in Egersund. It is Norway's second-largest international ferry operator with around 21% market share, carrying more than 1.2 million passengers per year. The fleet of three conventional cruise ferries plus one high-speed catamaran connects Norway and Denmark, with two of the cruise ferries powered entirely by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Fred Olsen Express
Fred Olsen Express is a Spanish high-speed ferry operator founded in 1974 as Ferry Gomera. Owned by the Olsen family through its Bonheur and Ganger Rolf holding companies, the brand is the inter-island specialist of the Canary Islands and also runs a single mainland route between Huelva and Las Palmas. The fleet is built around fast catamarans and trimarans.
Ionion Pelagos
Ionion Pelagos is a Greek family-run shipping company operating in the Ionian Sea. Its main vessel, F/B Ionion Pelagos, was built in 1990 in Salamina and runs the lifeline route between mainland Astakos and the islands of Ithaca (Pisaetos) and Kefalonia (Sami). Kerkyra Lines
Kerkyra Lines is the trading name of a Greek joint venture (Joint Ownership of Corfu Ships, Greek: K/X Ploion Kerkyras) that has operated the Corfu-Igoumenitsa-Paxos routes since 2010. Since 2021 it has also run a daily service to the lifeline Diapontian Islands route from Corfu. The fleet is one of the largest on the Corfu-Igoumenitsa crossing, designed for high-frequency year-round service.
Lafasi Marine
Lafasi Marine is a Greek family-owned shipping company founded in 1974 in Kalymnos. Run for over 50 years by the Lafasi family from offices in the Pothia area of Kalymnos, the company operates two fast passenger boats, Apollon II and Ilias T, connecting Kalymnos with Kos, Leros, Pserimos and the Turkish port of Bodrum (ancient Halicarnassus).
Levante Ferries
Levante Ferries is a multi-awarded Greek ferry company founded in 2014 and headquartered in Zakynthos, with central offices in Athens (Kallithea) and ticket agencies in Patras, Kyllini, Ithaca and Izmir. The company serves the Ionian Sea corridor between the Peloponnese and the southern Ionian islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Ithaca, with a fleet of five conventional ferries and a network reaching six ports each week.
Maistros Santorini
Maistros Santorini is the passenger-ferry brand of the Boatman Union of Santorini (Greek: Enosi Lemvouchon Santorinis), based in Messaria on Santorini. Moby Lines
Moby Lines is an Italian ferry operator owned by the Onorato Group, a fifth-generation family company. Founded in 1959 as NAVARMA (Navigazione Arcipelago Maddalenino) by Achille Onorato, Moby grew through major acquisitions, Toremar in 2011 and Tirrenia in 2015, into one of the largest Italian ferry brands. Stena Line
Stena Line is one of the largest passenger and freight ferry operators in the world, founded in 1962 by Sten Allan Olsson in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Stena Group remains family-owned, headquartered in Gothenburg, and operates around 40 vessels on 19 routes connecting 10 countries across Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
Toremar
Toremar is the trading name of Toscana Regionale Marittima S.p.A., founded in 1976 and headquartered in Livorno. Acquired by Moby S.p.A. in 2011, Toremar is the lifeline carrier between the Tuscan mainland and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, Elba, Capraia, Gorgona, Pianosa, Giglio and Giannutri. The company traces its operating heritage to Navigazione Toscana, which connected Piombino and Portoferraio from 1914.
Trasmed
Trasmed is a Spanish ferry operator headquartered in Valencia. The company was created in July 2021 as Grimaldi Logistica Espana, the Iberian subsidiary of the Italian Grimaldi Group, when it acquired the Balearic Islands operations of Trasmediterranea from Naviera Armas. The Trasmediterranea name itself dates back to 1916 and held a state-protected Spanish ferry monopoly between 1921 and 1998.
Ventouris Ferries
Ventouris Ferries is a Greek family-owned shipping company founded in 1976 by the Ventouris family, with the trademark formalised in 1984. Viking Line
Viking Line is a Finnish public ferry company founded in 1959 as Rederi Ab Vikinglinjen and reorganised under the current Viking Line Abp name in 1993.
