FRS Iberia is a ferry operator on the Strait of Gibraltar founded in 2000 as a subsidiary of the German shipping group FRS Foerde Reederei Seetouristik. In January 2024 FRS Iberia was sold to DFDS and now operates as part of the Danish ferry group, with three routes connecting Spain and Morocco. The Tarifa-Tangier Ville route ended on 4 May 2025, leaving Algeciras-Tanger Med and Algeciras-Ceuta as the active routes.
The fleet mixes RoPAX vessels (Tanger Express, Kattegat) used on Algeciras-Tanger Med, and high-speed catamarans (Ceuta Jet, Algeciras Jet, Tarifa Jet, Levante Jet, Poniente Jet) used for short fast crossings to Ceuta and Tangier. Crossing time is around 1 hour 30 minutes for Algeciras-Tanger Med and around 1 hour to Ceuta. Onboard amenities include shops, cafeterias and an optional Premium Class upgrade.
SimpleFerry issues an e-ticket. Foot passengers should be at the terminal 1 hour before departure; vehicle passengers 90 minutes before. Travel documents (passport plus Moroccan visa where applicable) must be ready at boarding. Customs and police checks are mandatory for crossings to Tanger Med and Ceuta.
Pets are allowed under Spanish and Moroccan veterinary rules. A valid pet passport and microchip are required. Confirm carrier requirements during booking.
It now operates under DFDS following the January 2024 acquisition. The FRS Iberia brand is being integrated into the wider DFDS network.
The Port Authority of Algeciras awarded the concession to Balearia in December 2024; FRS / DFDS ran the final crossing on 4 May 2025.
