Baleària is the trading name of Spanish shipping company Baleària Eurolíneas Marítimas S.A., founded on 20 June 1998 by Adolfo Utor with 16 partners and 126 employees. Headquartered in Dénia on Spain's Costa Blanca, Baleària is Spain's leading domestic ferry operator. It connects mainland Spain — Dénia, Valencia and Barcelona — with the Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, plus the Strait of Gibraltar to Ceuta and Tangier, North Africa, and Florida to the Bahamas through its Baleària Caribbean operation.
Baleària operates 34 vessels (per its December 2024 fleet) across high-speed catamarans, dual-fuel LNG ferries and conventional cruise ferries. Flagships include the Eleanor Roosevelt, Margarita Salas, Mercedes Pinto and Ramon Llull high-speed ferries; conventional ferries include Abel Matutes, Ciudad de Mahón, Dénia Ciutat Creativa and Hypatia de Alejandría. The Cap de Barbaria, launched on the Ibiza–Formentera route, is Baleària's first fully electric ferry, with an OPS shore-power socket and 12 hours of in-port battery autonomy. Several ships now run on LNG and biogas, allowing some routes to operate with net-zero emissions. Onboard amenities scale by ship and route. Conventional cruise ferries on long Mediterranean and Caribbean routes carry restaurants, snack bars, indoor and outdoor lounges, retail areas, swimming pools (on Martin i Soler and Bahama Mama), heated jacuzzis and play areas for children. High-speed catamarans focus on numbered seating, snack bars and air-conditioned lounges, with Wi-Fi hotspots, free WhatsApp messaging, QR cabin access and pet tracking on the smart-ship fleet. Adapted seating, ramps and elevators support passengers with reduced mobility; wheelchair assistance can be arranged at boarding.
