Trasmed

Trasmed is a Spanish ferry operator headquartered in Valencia. The company was created in July 2021 as Grimaldi Logistica Espana, the Iberian subsidiary of the Italian Grimaldi Group, when it acquired the Balearic Islands operations of Trasmediterranea from Naviera Armas. The Trasmediterranea name itself dates back to 1916 and held a state-protected Spanish ferry monopoly between 1921 and 1998.

Fleet and onboard experience

The core fleet includes Ciudad de Palma, Ciudad de Granada, Ciudad de Mahon and Ciudad de Alcudia. Reinforcement vessels rotated in from the Grimaldi Group fleet (such as Volcan del Teide, Volcan de Tijarafe and Euroferry Egnazia) cover seasonal peaks and longer crossings. Ships offer cabins across multiple categories, including dedicated pet-friendly cabins. Onboard amenities typically include a pool, multiple bars and restaurants, shops and a children's area on the larger Ro-Pax vessels. Trasmed is FAADA pet-friendly certified, with video-monitored kennels and pet cabins on most routes.

Booking, check-in and luggage on SimpleFerry

Trasmed tickets booked through SimpleFerry are issued as e-tickets. Vehicles need to be at the port at least 90 minutes before departure; foot passengers 60 minutes. Free luggage allowance is 30 kg per passenger. Passengers travelling with a vehicle can store additional bags in the car. Cancellation rules depend on the fare type. Most flexible fares allow changes up to 24 hours before sailing for a small fee.

Pet policy

Pet cabins are available on most overnight crossings and book up quickly during the summer. Standard kennels are video-monitored. Pets travel free or at a low fee depending on size and route. EU pet travel documentation is required.

Frequently asked questions

Is Trasmed the same as Trasmediterranea?

Trasmed GLE is the current operator of the Trasmediterranea Balearic routes. The Trasmediterranea brand was founded in 1916 and changed ownership several times. Which crossing to the Balearics is fastest?

Barcelona to Ibiza and Valencia to Ibiza both run on fast schedules of around 5-7 hours. Overnight crossings tend to be longer (8-10 hours) and arrive in the morning.

Can I bring a motorhome?

Yes. All Trasmed Ro-Pax ferries accept cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and bicycles. Vehicle dimensions are checked at booking.
