Fleet and onboard experience

Nissos Kalymnos (also known as Island Kalymnos) is the larger conventional ferry, built in 1988. It accepts cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and pets in onboard kennels. The garage and pet kennels make it the only practical year-round option for travelling with a vehicle to Astypalea or to the small Patmos-Leros-Lipsi cluster. Kalymnos Dolphin is a smaller foot-passenger-only vessel running shuttle service between Kalymnos and Mastichari (Kos). Onboard, both vessels offer indoor seating with airline-style seats, an outdoor deck and a basic cafe-bar serving snacks and drinks. Crossings range from 30 minutes (Kalymnos-Mastichari) to 6+ hours (Kalymnos-Samos via small islands).

Frequently asked questions

Is A.N.E. Kalymnou the same as ANEM Ferries?

No. A.N.E. Kalymnou is based in Kalymnos and runs the Kalymnos-Astypalea-Samos network. ANEM Ferries is based in Mastichari (Kos) and runs the Mastichari-Kalymnos crossing. They are separate companies that share part of the same route.

Can I take a car to Astypalea?

Yes, on Nissos Kalymnos. The Kalymnos-Astypalea car ferry runs three times a week. Astypalea has very few year-round car-ferry options, so this is the main service.

Does the route to Samos stops at small islands?

Yes. The Kalymnos-Pythagorio crossing stops at Leros, Lipsi, Patmos, Arki and Agathonisi on the way, providing essential lifeline service to all of these islands.
